5. The Kamov Ka-52 Russia's Hokum-A

Producer: Kammov, Progress The Russian Army, Russian Special Forces, and Russian Air Force are the main users. Cost: $512 million* for the program or $16 million* for each unit (FY2011) The Ka-50, also called the "Black Shark," was created by Kamov. The Ka-52, also developed by Kamov, goes by the moniker "the Alligator." One notable feature of the Kamov design bureau is its unique coaxial rotor system.

The helicopters were constructed by Progress, an Arsenyev constructor, even though Kamov designed them. The Ka-50 serves as the Russian special forces' backup helicopter, even though the Mil Mi-28 is the primary gunship of the Russian Army. There are also three units in the Russian Air Force.
